| LATEST: The Lunar lines hold firm against the advancing column of chanting Ghouls. Cooly and professionally, the splendid Hoplites despatch their vile undead foes. Although attacked from two sides by reptilian foes, the brave Culbrean Huscarls hew mightily at the onrushing Dinosaur brute and drive it back across the Creek! In monstrous panic, it nearly tramples the Dragonewt Priests, who sought protection to it's rear - but they just manage to flutter up out of it's way. But some Dragonewt Warriors - who have not yet learned to fly - cannot escape it's enraged trampling and their current bodies are crushed. Meanwhile, two kings - one living, one dead - face each other with their troops. The human elite Culbrean Royal Guard drive back the opposing undead rabble and Brangbane is left exposed - just as bellowing Troll Warriors charge into his right. Heroically, King-General Ruari Agres of the Culbrea strikes his legendary Foe. The swords of each slide past the other's guard and both are transfixed - General Ruari and Brangbane are both slain! Bereft of their horrid king the Ghoul hordes turn to flee. Surviving Culbreans prepare to bear their leaders' body from the field. The Lunar Commander's orders are given: "Wipe them out!" |
| THE SITUATION:
The 1st Legion of the Lunar Provincial Army of Sartar, on their way to liberate New Tarsh (formerly Northern Sartar) from unlawful occupation by UEA rebels, find the town of Dangerford under threat from the marauding undead hordes of Brangbane, the King of Ghouls. Dangerford belongs to the Colymar, a Lunar Ally, so the Legion heroically stands to defend it from the flesh-feasting fiends. Meanwhile, a large detachment of inscrutable Dragonewts arrive, lead by the respected Priest Zexketa Manythought. But which side, if any, will these inhuman creatures favour? Initially they promise aid to the human Lunars, then...BETRAYAL! The Dragonewts go over to the Ghouls! But there is yet some hope for Humanity. Loyal Sable Riders are on their way from the plains of distant Prax. Also, hungry for blood and the honour of smiting the Forces of Disorder, Zorak Zoran warbands of the Uz Folk are hurrying from the Troll Woods. Also come the Fingerless Ghosts to take revenge on their murderer, Brangbane. But will they be in time to save the badly outnumbered defenders? And finally, a Hero arrives ! Unable to stand idle while fellow Sartarites are eaten, General Ruari Agres of the Culbrea tribe leads his splendid Warriors onto the field. They stand, side by side with their Lunar allies, defending the people of Dangerford from the claws of undeath... |

GHOUL PACKS 1-6 advance NE toward the Lunars, chanting "knob-buckets to you all !!". GHOUL PACK 8 turns to face due East and advances, balletically [GM: Can't - no room to turn]. The Beaked Dragonewts shall turn out of the river and slice the remnants of the axemen that the dinosaur is so happily stomping. [GM: Wait no more...] As is his name suggest Zexketa has thought again, and rather than attack the General Ruari shall instead fly over his troops admiring the view, exhorting them to great martial deeds, landing just behind the forlorn crested skirmishers he shall turn to face the enemy. OUTCOMES: Ghouls Choir#1: roll 4 +2(warband-1) = 6 v Royal Guard#2: roll 4 +5(blades v foot) = 9 => Ghoul Choir#1 RECOILS. Let us cement our alliance in the blood of our enemies...!" Ghouls: "We attack based on your suggested line-up. The ghouls will aim to sweep the field of enemy units but not attack the fort and the garrison within. Our aim will be to drive off the enemy, not stop and eat them mid-battle. We will co-operate fully with our allies the dragonnewts.God speed to the non-human and the dead !" Dragonewts: I will control my men, and we will fight the Lunars. Skirmishers and Winged Priests to the fore, to destroy the Lunar skirmish line. My units will then retreat to fight off the [Sable Riders]. Beaked and the "big cuddly" [Triceratops] will form up near the base line and will move up behind the ghouls to the south end of the swamp. joined by the skirmishers once their job is done and will retreat if/when the battle goes badly. Results: Culbrean setup position moved to west of fort to be behind baseline; Culbrean contingent cannot include Pikes (last unit listed in mail) as this would be more than half their army's AP. Axemen's position adjusted accordingly. Dragonewts are attackers and so must start in column formation. Trolls to arrive on turn 4, Sable Riders arrive turn 4+6=10, Fingerless Ghosts arrive later. Next Turn PIPs: Lunars 2, Culbrea 1; Ghouls 4, Dragonewts 5. Finally, the battle lines are drawn up... |
